MRA Young Authors' Conference Grant The ability to write well is an important skill. It is essential that children understand the importance of the process of composition. They need to recognize through constant practice that writing is on going and that there are many steps and often obstacles along the way to the final product. While that concept is what we emphasize first, we also want the students to know that the eventual outcome of writing is a product for a special audience. Sharing the finished product with that audience is an important and rewarding activity that can be accomplished through a Young Authors' Conference. Because we want our students to realize that with perseverance, each of them can be an author, any student who completes a piece of writing he/she wishes to share should be included in the conference. This grant is not for "Reading in the Mall." The Michigan Reading Association believes in the value of the Young Authors' Conference and has therefore stipulated funds in support of this activity.
