MRA's Summer Literature Conference 2016

July 13-14, 2016 - Shanty Creek Resort

BIG NEWS!!! Our Summer Literature Conference has a new home! Because of exorbitant increases in room prices at Mission Point, the MRA Board of Directors decided to find a more affordable alternative for our fabulous July conference. We are excited to announce that the 2016 Summer Literature Conference will be held at the Shanty Creek Resort in Bellaire, MI. The dates are July 13 and 14, which will enable people to attend both Nerd Camp and our conference. Watch for exciting updates in the coming months!!

International Literacy Day 2015

September 8

The Power of People: Start a Literacy Movement

To help celebrate ILD in your classroom, community, or online, the team at ILA has prepared some tools for you:

The ILD Activity Kit is full of classroom ideas focused on the Philippines, a country that inspires us with its commitment to literacy for all.

The Little Free Library Service Project Kit is a special guide that outlines a few simple steps for expanding access to reading resources in your community.

Keep us posted on your ILD plans and activities on social media using #ILD15. We will be sharing your activities with the ILA network throughout the day and on our blog in days following the celebrations.

The Michigan Reading Association will participate in promoting the Free Little Library Project and the ILA International Project by providing books authored/illustrated by Michigan residents or books about the state of Michigan. These books will be distributed to the Free Little Libraries all across the United States and beyond.

The Faces of MRA

 By Lisa Rivard 2015-2016 President

Welcome to the Michigan Reading Association website! MRA’s Board of Directors is proud to serve by leading and supporting efforts to promote literacy throughout the Great Lakes State. We continue to partner with educators and businesses, support our local reading councils, and provide for rich resources within our communities. MRA continues to concentrate on important topics through committee work and projects. We have a legislative committee for literacy updates, an International Literacy project, and student projects such as Great Lakes, Great Books and Kaleidoscope. MRA recognizes the work of our members by awarding an author or illustrator within our state with the prestigious Gwen Frostic Award and various literacy awards to local teachers and administrators.

If you are new to MRA or considering a return, you can find membership information linked on this website. As a member, you will receive access to discounts at our annual conference in March and our summer conference. In addition, members receive our highly acclaimed journal, The MRJ. This quarterly publication is filled with timely and relevant articles from literacy experts across the state.

Browse our website to learn more about the Michigan Reading Association or call our headquarters at 1-616-647-9310. We look forward to working with you to promote literacy across our state!
