Conference Cancelation Update

Dear Michigan Reading Association Conference Attendees,
In light of the most recent information from the World Health Organization that the COVID-19 has become a pandemic, and Governor Whitmer declaring a state of emergency in Michigan, the Executive Board of Directors has recommended that we cancel the conference event this weekend in Detroit.
We feel as an organization it is our responsibility to consider the options and outcomes of this decision that would be the most beneficial to our members and citizens of the state.
This was a very difficult decision.
However many sources are recommending social distance to lessen the spread and burden on healthcare systems. Bringing together 1,400+ educators in such a setting has the potential to substantially increase this risk.
For this reason, along with large venue events being cancelled and the rapidly expanding list of universities that have moved to online classes, the decision has been made to postpone the event at this time.
We will be looking at every option and possibility to reschedule at a later date this year.
Schools and individuals will get further communication on the refund procedure. Please be patient as it will take time to work through this process.
