John Schu (better known as Mr. Schu) will be one of the featured speakers at the Michigan Reading Association’s annual conference, speaking at the Elementary Luncheon on Saturday, March 14, 2020.

Mr. Schu is known for being a blogger, a part-time lecturer at Rutgers University, and the Ambassador of School libraries for Scholastic Book Fairs. He has been named “The Xtreme Librarian” by Library Journal due to his high level of exertion along with some gears and stunts he uses to get kids reading.
With 51% of students saying they get their best book suggestions from their librarians or teachers, John Schu’s combination of the two is sure to give you ideas to bring back to your classrooms. Instructor Magazine named him a Cool Teacher for redefining what it means to be a teacher-librarian. His love and knowledge of great books also allowed him to serve on the 2014 Newberry committee, which named the title Flora and Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures “the most distinguished contribution to children’s literature.” He also is involved with The Creativity Project: An Awesometastic Story Collection.
You can find his daily blogs at or find him on Twitter at @MrSchuReads.
