2013 Company Literacy Award Winner
Hudsonville Ice Cream and Creamery Company
Who would not like a freezer full of delicious ice cream delivered to an event? Hudsonville Ice Cream and Creamery Company has been supporting literacy events across our state. In 2012 the company announced a “March is Reading Month’ event for all students in Michigan. Students across the state submitted their March Reading Logs and a random drawing took place. Prizes included ice cream parties for the entire school community, baskets of books, author visits, and delivery for an entire summer’s worth of free ice cream delivered to students’ homes. All participants were awarded with coupons for books and free ice cream. Also in March the company took part in the Children’s Book Expo in Zeeland. The expo was held at the Howard Miller Library with many reading events for all ages. In June, Hudsonville sponsored the Run2Read Event in Macomb and Oakland counties. They supported the event with donations and a friendly welcome to incoming runners. The company helped to raise $20,000 to support adult literacy across these large counties. The Hudsonville Ice Cream and Creamery Company has spread its resources across the state to support literacy within our communities. They have expressed sincere commitment in expanding this partnership in the future to ensure all students are reading to succeed in our Great State of Michigan.
